Gutter blocked

Inevitably with the passage of time, whether that be weeks, months or even years, at some stage the guttering and rainwater water pipework on a property will definitely block. N11 Plumbers deal with all kinds plumbing problems.

These are fitted outside to divert rainwater down into the drains. The gutters and spouts will at times collect unwanted dust and debris including moss, forming a silt like mass that will not allow anything to pass through, especially water. This then creates another problem and that is a potentially massive overflow (depending on the rainfall), where water will literally flow were ever it wants and cannot be stopped. The solution of course is to clear the blockage. This can be done with the use of a 4-5ft pole with a semi circular piece on one end. An N11 Plumber uses various types of equipment.

Using a ladder to reach the gutter place the pole far down the trough and dig the end in and pull the mess towards you, then place it in a bucket and ditch it. As this of course involves a ladder so you must take care and never carry this task out on your own if you can avoid it. Try not to over reach when up a ladder or lean the ladder on the pipework as it will damage the pipe. Should the rainwater pipe become blocked it will be slightly more difficult. You can try to push a drainage spring up and down the pipework. If the pipe is made of plastic it is easier and quicker to pull all the sections apart and carry out the job on the ground. This is an easier way of inspecting and clearing the whole length. The blockage is usually at the bottom of this pipe, causing the water to flood from the joints, this is nearly always caused by a blockage located in the gully section and can be simply cleared out by hand.
