The source pipe must be split into two separate parts. One supply provides heating sources for hot water and others provide cold water. When you are replacing or installing supply line for toilet, make sure to install shut off valve for each line.
Check the fitting of your pipes as soon as you move in a new house. There are many chances that the fitting of the pipes has gotten weaken. The weak fitting of the pipes means that you might experience water leakage, which will further lead you to other problems.
