Water Storage Overflows

The overflow pipe is quite a large pipe that make alows surplus or excess water to flow away from a tank, cylinder or other water storage device to prevent damge of flooding. N11 Plumbers can advise on overflow problems. This overflow pipe can sometimes just be a means of preventing the storage vessel from overfilling by the use of a channel that will redirect it to another container or discharge it to a drainage system. The pipe can be part of a safety system that opens quickly to let liquid be taken from a storage device when a structural fault occurs. This is in order to make repairs possible, then, allow the container to refill once the it is safe to use. You will find a water overflow pipe in many different types of appliances.

A normal use for this type of pipework is in toilet cisterns. This pipe prevents the water in the cistern from overflowing, to avert the water flooding the bathroom instead. An N11 Plumber is trained to fix overflows. If water is seen running from an overflow, there will definitely be a problem. This can be down to a failure of an control valve for the water inlet of an appliance, for example a toilet cistern. This inlet would probably be operated and controlled by something called a float-operated, (ball) valve. There are a couple of reasons for a failur such as a faulty or perished washer can. The washer can be heavily worn or may have perished through constant use. Formation of scale around the area of the seal can cause the sealing action of the washer to fail, or maybe the ball float has developed a leak, and the water inside will affect the way the float sits and stop the filling valve but this does not happen too often. “
